Horizon Recruitment Inc. is conducting the search for an experienced Category Manager to support our client through a major transition within the procurement and strategic sourcing department.

 

You will be instrumental in developing category strategies from the ground up, working closely with internal team members and department stakeholders across the organization.

 

The role will ensure the effective operation of assigned categories, aligning them with approved policies and achieving performance objectives. Your leadership in developing and implementing category strategies, sourcing initiatives, and other critical processes will be essential for the continued success of the organization.


Initially a 12 month contract term, this position has the potential for long term, permanent employment.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage category strategies, considering value, diversity of bidders, project schedule, industry practice, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides guidance on the best procurement mechanisms and conducts competitive selection processes for complex projects.
  • Contributes to providing feedback or addressing concerns of client departments as required.
  • Provides expert advice on category development opportunities uncovered through the continuous improvement program.
  • Provides guidance to buyers and staff in developing market intelligence, ensuring sound competitive sourcing strategies and governance.
  • Collaborates closely with the Director, Procurement, and peers for efficient and effective category management.
  • Proactively identifies continuous improvement and total cost reduction opportunities in collaboration with Division’s staff, vendors, and internal clients.
  • Consolidates sourcing across the organization for administrative and cost advantages.
  • Drives business improvements and fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the assigned portfolio.
  • Provides guidance in evaluating the compliance of submitted tenders, considering legal risks, precedent, and business reputation.
  • Stays current with emerging trends, best practices, and regulations.
  • Represents the Corporation, developing relationships with suppliers, associations, peer organizations, regulatory agencies, and legal and consultant firms.

Requirements:

  • University degree (bachelor’s or equivalent).
  • Previous experience supporting construction, engineering or major capital categories.
  • Proven track record with 8+ years in developing and executing value-add category, strategic sourcing, or similar business strategies.
  • Previous experience developing Category strategies from the ground up.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional project teams within a complex business environment.
  • Proven ability to deliver Project Management and Change management initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leading change initiatives using structured project management or equivalent methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage relationships across various audience levels.
  • Quick learner with a growth mindset and a strong orientation towards teamwork.
  • Accountable influencer who shapes perspectives and consistently drives results.


Compensation:

  • $50-$60/hr
