Just HR has been engaged to recruit a Human Resources Business Partner by our Toronto based, fast growing construction client. The HRBP will support a national team in ON and BC. As our client moves through another phase of growth, the Human Resources team is expanding and positioning itself to support business units on a strategic level, including developing and managing HR programs and procedures for departmental development. Reporting to the HR Director and working closely with our other members of the HR Team, this role will also play an important part in supporting on-going employee life cycle events, in addition to departmental HR projects. Our client has excelled in construction services for over 50 years and their portfolio includes an impressive list of roadworks, residential and commercial developments.

 

Responsibilities:

The HR Business Partner will be the key point of contact for employees and managers within the assigned business units for day-to-day support, including talent acquisition (hourly and salary), onboarding, employee relations, policy inquiries, coaching and performance management, in addition to other aspects of the employee life cycle (e.g. benefits administration, HRIS updates, payroll on/off-boardings and final pay calculations). Key areas of responsibility include:

Performance Management & Employee Relations

  • Effectively manage conflicts, working closely with managers to ensure that employee relations issues are handled professionally and timely to minimize risks to the business.
  • Complete exit interviews, prepare change forms and ensure proper processing for any resignations/departures and layoffs.
  • Conduct thorough investigations as required, including any follow-up recommendations such as training/education or discipline as required; prepare final report summaries.
  • Proactively schedule meetings with supervisors and other front-line leaders to review teams, and identify potential issues to focus on engagement and employee retention.
  • Prepare documentation and coach leaders on discipline and/or termination activities, including on-site event and post-event support.
  • Support performance review and objective setting cycles through training and follow-up with managers, including probationary, interim and annual performance reviews.

General HR

  • Responding to policy inquires in a timely manner, including clarification and explanation as required.
  • Supporting on-going and annual data updates of employee files in BambooHR, including leaves of absence, vacation and other leave balances
  • Developing HR related reports and analysis on KPIs and cost measures to facilitate business discussions and decisions.
  • Provide support as required in the development of appropriate internal communications

Compensation & Benefits

  • Complete compensation analysis for workforce transitions and present recommendations to business and senior HR leaders for approval (e.g. new hires, promotions, transfers).
  • Participate in year-end compensation review exercises for applicable client groups, including annual base salary reviews, bonus plans and development of communication materials.
  • Support compensation survey participation for the business line as required
  • Process new employee additions, changes and terminations with relevant plan carriers for group benefits and RRSP programs.

 Talent Acquisition

  • Work closely with departmental supervisors and managers within the assigned client group to identify (new) hiring needs and role requirements and prepare job postings. As part this process, the role will work closely with leaders to analyze current and potential future needs to drive alignment opportunistically with new talent.
  • Conducts pre-screening, organizes interviews and personality assessments, and actively participates with leaders to help identify talent for key roles.
  • Ensures that detailed onboarding plans are developed with hiring managers and departments to facilitate a smooth integration of new hires


 Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a progressive Human Resources role, with a strong preference to the construction of other heavy industry settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of the major pillars of HR Management, systems and processes.
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management, Industrial/Labour Relations or Business Administration.
  • Working towards the CHRP designation or completed CHRP designation.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Previous HRIS experience, particularly with BambooHR, is an asset
  • Flexible and collaborative work style aimed at maintaining positive relationships with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to solve moderately complex problems and make routine recommendations.
  • Knowledge of multiple provincial legislation (e.g. Ontario, BC), US-legislation and/or collective agreements is an asset.


Remuneration:

  • Base salary is $75 - 95K plus bonus and benefits.
