- Just HR has been engaged to conduct a search for a Payroll Associate for a growing company in the financial services sector. Our client, one of Canada’s largest independent investment dealers, is seeking an experienced payroll professional to join their dynamic team. With a national footprint and approximately 300 employees, including commission-based professionals and salaried staff, this growing financial services firm administers over $10 billion in assets. The payroll specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring payroll operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position is both strategic and hands-on, requiring someone with proven leadership skills and the ability to streamline processes while managing a small team. Responsibilities:
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 300 employees, including commission-based professionals with complex compensation structures and salaried staff across Canada.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial payroll regulations, including year-end reporting and tax filings.
- Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, HR, and departmental managers, to resolve payroll-related inquiries and ensure seamless integration of payroll data.
- Handle escalated payroll issues, providing hands-on support to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
- Monitor payroll system functionality, recommending upgrades or process improvements as needed.
- Prepare detailed payroll reports and analysis for senior leadership, offering insights into trends and opportunities for cost optimization.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in payroll management, with experience in both salaried and commission-based compensation plans.
- Professional payroll certification (e.g., PCP or CPM designation)
- Proven experience managing payroll for a multi-province workforce in Canada, preference to experience in professional or financial services.
- Hands-on expertise in handling complex payroll structures, including those for commission sales professionals.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial payroll regulations, including tax requirements and statutory deductions.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a track record of improving payroll processes and creating operational efficiencies.
- Proficiency in payroll software and systems; experience with major platforms is an asset. Excellent excel user-level skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a customer-service mindset.
Remuneration:
- Salary $75-85K plus bonus based on experience
