Just HR is partnering with a leading manufacturing client in Abbotsford to recruit a Senior OHS Advisor. Our client is a well-established manufacturer of specialized products that serve various industrial sectors across North America and globally. They have a solid history of growth and a dynamic workplace culture that fosters a positive and productive environment. As the Senior OHS Advisor, your primary responsibility will be to manage and enhance the existing environmental, health, and safety programs while also creating and implementing new systems to elevate safety standards across the operation. You will work to minimize risks and liabilities by developing comprehensive safety programs and ensuring that all operations comply with relevant legislation, corporate policies, and industry standards. This role is a term employment role (temporary fulltime) for one and a half years with potential to move into permanency.


Responsibilities:

  • Drive sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, emissions, and energy use.
  • Establish objectives, devise plans, oversee daily management activities, and implement corrective measures to align OHS goals with the company’s strategic vision.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement to address complex safety challenges.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to maintain and enhance key OHS controls. Lead and manage OHS activities across both site and field service operations.
  • Identify and monitor leading indicators to improve safety performance and reduce incidents.
  • Conduct annual Workstation Risk Assessments to identify and mitigate safety hazards.
  • Ensure comprehensive OHS training programs are developed, implemented, and tracked for completion.
  • Analyze safety data related to first aid, near misses, and recordable incidents to inform corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with public and governmental authorities on OHS matters, ensuring timely closure of regulatory findings.
  • Act as the central point of contact for OHS-related inquiries from business leaders.
  • Chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Manage and maintain all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) records.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to employees and field technicians to foster a strong safety culture.
  • Work closely with site leadership to promote a proactive approach to OHS, focusing on incident prevention and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and plans for both site and field service employees.
  • Lead the drive for a positive OHS culture through engagement initiatives.
  • Guide the development and implementation of long-term OHS initiatives, training programs, and policies.


Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative relationships at all organizational levels, from executives to front-line staff.
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • 4-8 years of relevant OHS experience, ideally within the manufacturing sector.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, especially in working with spreadsheets and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and a systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • In-depth knowledge of BC Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.
  • Experience with Incident Investigation techniques.
  • Proven track record in establishing a strong safety culture.
  • Comprehensive understanding of WCB regulations and claims management processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and environmental requirements.
  • Experience in Claims Management, Disability Management, and Return-to-Work programs.
  • Formal first aid training, knowledge and certification.
  • Strong leadership qualities and accountability, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.


Remuneration:

$105K - $120K, plus benefits
